Faith Ifeoma Onwuson, better known as Honeypot, is an emerging talent in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

In this exclusive interview with Saturday Sun, the 23-year-old artist who is rapidly establishing herself as one of Nollywood’s most sought-after figures discusses her career trajectory, the challenges encountered, her relationship status, and future endeavours.

Can you tell us more about yourself?

I’m 23 years old, born on August 8, 2002. I come from a family of seven; my parents and five siblings, and I’m the second-to-the last child. I grew up in the hood, attended UNIZIK schools, and those early experiences taught me resilience, creativity, and the drive to dream beyond my environment. Today, I’m proud to be building a career in the entertainment industry.

Acting is not just something I do, it’s my passion. Being on a movie set gives me a kind of joy and fulfilment I can’t even describe. I love telling stories, embodying characters, and bringing emotions to life. Alongside acting, I create digital content and work with various brands as an ambassador, using my platform to connect, influence, and inspire.

You’ve been described as one of Nollywood’s promising new faces. How did your journey into acting begin, and what inspired you to pursue this path?

I’ve always believed that acting chose me long before I chose it. Growing up, I was that child who was always eager to be on stage. I was a drama coordinator both in primary and secondary schools, and I acted in church dramas as well. Those early experiences planted something in me, a natural love for storytelling and performance.

Even though what I studied in school was different from my true passion, I never lost that fire. After university, I decided to follow what truly made me happy, and that was acting. I went into it full-time, and it has been one of the best decisions of my life.

So being described as one of Nollywood’s promising new faces is both humbling and motivating. Acting is the one thing I do effortlessly and joyfully. It doesn’t feel like work; it feels like purpose. Every time I’m on set, I’m reminded that this is exactly where I’m meant to be.

As a newcomer in a competitive industry, what challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges is dealing with people who try to attach conditions to opportunities. I’ve had producers, actors, and even influential industry figures make promises that came with expectations I was not willing to entertain. From day one, I made a personal decision. I would build my career with integrity. So, I have turned down anything that didn’t align with my values, no matter how tempting it looked.

It hasn’t always been easy, because sometimes the roles you genuinely want come with the wrong energy. But I strongly believe that what is meant for me will never come with stress or compromise. I choose the opportunities that come to me genuinely, and I let go of anything that demands a price I’m not willing to pay.

Another challenge has been visibility. I’ve done many movies, some that frustrated me, some that stretched me, but I can’t point to a single one that ‘brought me to the spotlight.’ My growth has been a combination of every project I’ve worked on. And aside from acting, I also put in the work myself as a content creator on Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms. Creating my content has helped me showcase my personality, my talent, and my consistency. It has given people the chance to discover me even outside the movie world.

So the journey has had its obstacles, but staying true to who I am, working hard, creating my own visibility, and trusting my path have helped me overcome each one.

Which of your roles so far has been the most emotionally demanding or personally fulfilling, and why?

I’ve played many roles that challenged me in different ways, but the most emotionally demanding one was when I acted as a ghost. That role pushed me completely out of my comfort zone. The makeup alone was so intense and realistic that it genuinely frightened me on set. Filming at night made it even more terrifying, to the point where I actually had nightmares afterwards.

But despite the fear, I had to give it my all. I wanted the performance to look convincing, so I focused on embodying the character fully. That experience taught me a lot about commitment and the emotional depth acting sometimes requires. Aside from that role, I’ve taken on many characters that I’m comfortable with and enjoy playing. Acting, for me, is something I truly love, so even when a role is challenging, I see it as part of the growth process. But that ghost character definitely stands out as the most challenging one so far.

Who are the Nollywood or global actors, directors, or filmmakers that inspire your craft the most?

When it comes to my craft, I can’t point to any specific Nollywood actor or industry figure who inspires me. I honestly believe I am my own pioneer. I inspire myself. I’m my own role model. Each time I watch my performances, I see both my growth and my potential, and that motivates me to keep improving. Seeing what I’ve been able to do pushes me to raise the bar even higher. That self-drive is what keeps me focused, consistent, and determined in this industry.

What unique qualities do you believe you bring to the screen that set you apart from other emerging talents?

One unique quality I bring to the screen is my originality. I show up as myself, real, raw, and authentic. I believe no one can deliver a role the way I do because I don’t try to imitate anyone. I bring my own energy, my own presence, and my own style of expression. There’s a certain way I light up or grace the screen that feels natural to me, and I think that’s what makes my performances stand out. I don’t just act the character, I embody it in a way that reflects both my creativity and my uniqueness. That originality is what I carry into every role I take on.

How has fame, even in its early stages influenced your personal life and relationships?

Fame has influenced my personal life and relationships in both positive and challenging ways. On the good side, it has opened doors for me bringing opportunities, connecting me with supportive people, and surrounding me with individuals who have encouraged me financially, emotionally, and physically. I’m grateful for those blessings.

But fame also comes with its own pressures. It exposes you to people who may not genuinely like you or who misunderstand who you are. Sometimes stepping out in public can be uncomfortable because people recognise me, and certain expectations come with that. Some people are incredibly kind. There are days someone pays for my food or shows me love just because they know me. But there’s also the other side, where people expect you to always give, or they assume every famous person automatically has money. That part can be overwhelming.

When it comes to relationships, fame makes things even more complicated. Finding genuine love is hard because people assume you have countless options simply because your DMs are full. They think you’re spoiled for choice, but that’s not reality. Many people in the industry are single, and I happen to be one of them. It takes someone with real understanding to see beyond the spotlight and connect with the person behind it. So overall, fame has been both good and challenging, but I focus more on the good and stay grounded through it all.

What kinds of roles or genres are you most excited to explore in the future?

In the future, I’d love to explore roles I haven’t had the chance to play yet. For example, I’ve never acted as a pregnant woman, and I think that would be a very interesting and emotional experience for me as an actor—especially because it requires a different level of depth and vulnerability. I’m also really drawn to action roles. I would love to be part of a Nollywood production that involves combat, stunts, or high-energy action scenes. If Nollywood continues expanding into that genre, I definitely want to be one of the actors pushing that boundary.

Ever faced sexual harassment in the industry?

Yes, I have faced sexual harassment from a producer before, and I did not take it lightly. When it happened, I made the decision not to return to that set because my dignity and safety come first. The production eventually continued, but the movie ended up being incomplete. That experience taught me to stand firm in my values and to always protect my space, no matter the opportunity involved.

What kind of movie role will you reject and why?

For now, I haven’t had to reject any movie roles. However, in the future, especially if I’m in a committed relationship, I may choose to turn down certain roles particularly those that are overly sexual or erotic. I believe it’s important to stay true to my personal values while continuing to grow as an actor.

Are you currently in any relationship?

I’m not in any relationship, but I’m looking forward to being with a caring and loving man. I enjoy being pampered and nurtured, so someone affectionate, attentive, and genuinely kind would be ideal.

Can you describe your dream man?

Ideally, I’d like to be with a man who is in his late twenties or above 30, as I feel that age and maturity would complement where I am in life right now.

What can your growing fanbase look forward to from you in the coming months; Any new films or projects in the works?

At the moment, I don’t have any movies scheduled for next month. I’m using this period to focus on building my online presence, growing my fanbase, and working on personal projects that help me develop as an artist. I’m also involved in creating skits and other content within the entertainment industry.

While there’s no movie lined up right now, I’m optimistic that opportunities will come in the coming months, and I’m ready to take them on.
