Confirming the incident on Tuesday, a community youth leader, John Maikudi, condemned the attack, describing it as unprovoked and senseless.
He urged security agencies to intensify efforts in safeguarding residents, especially as the farming season reaches harvest time in the area.
Armed attackers believed to be bandits on Monday invaded Kubon community in the Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing a farmer identified as Bitrus Dakwan.
Maikudi revealed that over the past two weeks, suspected Fulani militants have repeatedly invaded the community, firing shots indiscriminately and throwing residents into fear and panic.
He added that the attackers reportedly broke into Dakwan’s residence during the night and killed him on the spot.
A youth leader confirmed that armed attackers invaded Kubon community in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area yesterday, killing a young farmer identified as Bitrus Dakwan.
“Bitrus was at home when the assailants struck and took his life,” the youth leader said. “It is heartbreaking, especially because he was still grieving the death of his elder brother, who passed away last month after an illness.”
Maikudi explained that the situation could have been far worse if local residents had not quickly organized themselves and, with support from security personnel, confronted the attackers, forcing them to retreat.
He noted, “Were it not for the swift response of the villagers, who mobilized alongside security agents, the invaders would have inflicted even greater harm on the Kubon community.”
Maikudi lamented the persistent attacks on Plateau communities, describing the situation as unbearable. He questioned how long innocent villagers would continue to be killed while little is done to stop the assailants.
