The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of three senior police officers and demotion of 16 others over serious misconduct.
The commission also approved severe reprimands for 21 officers, ordinary reprimands for two others, while three officers were cleared of wrongdoing.
The decisions were taken during the commission’s plenary meeting held at its headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The meeting was chaired by PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Hashimu Salihu Argungu.
In a statement signed by the commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu, the PSC said the disciplinary actions followed the review of cases and appeals at different levels.

The commission also revealed that some officers who were previously suspended had been reinstated into the Nigeria Police Force.
Reaffirming its commitment to discipline, the PSC said it would not tolerate corruption, human rights violations, interference in land and civil matters, or other forms of misconduct among police officers.
Argungu assured Nigerians that the commission would continue to ensure that disciplinary cases were handled promptly.
He also praised members of the Standing Committee on Discipline and Legal Matters, chaired by retired Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, for their efforts in reviewing the cases.
The latest disciplinary action comes amid growing concerns over police corruption, abuse of power and human rights violations in Nigeria.
