The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued an injured newborn baby boy abandoned in a nylon bag in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja.
The baby was reportedly discovered on Monday, November 2, 2026, in critical condition, with bruises on his hand and one of his arms.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed the incident in a video shared on the command’s Facebook page on Tuesday, November 3.
According to Adeh, the newborn was found in a badly injured state and was immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention.
She added that the baby would subsequently be handed over to social welfare officials after receiving the necessary medical care.

The police spokesperson appealed to residents of Bwari and surrounding communities to provide useful information that could help identify the baby’s mother.
She particularly urged residents to report any woman who was recently pregnant but is no longer seen with a newborn.
Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to visit the nearest police station or contact the FCT Police Command’s Gender Officer on 08036259662.
Adeh also appealed to women facing unwanted pregnancies or difficult circumstances to seek assistance from social welfare offices or the nearest police station instead of abandoning their babies.
She stressed that help is available for mothers who are unable or unwilling to care for their newborns, warning against exposing innocent children to life-threatening situations.
