Members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) have arrested three suspected kidnappers allegedly terrorising residents and visitors around the Old Oyo National Park.
The suspects were reportedly apprehended by the organisation’s patrol team at different locations in Oyo State, following concerns over recurring kidnapping incidents and criminal activities within the park.
According to Kehinde Zaccheus, the OPC coordinator in Eseke village, Oriire Local Government Area, one of the suspects was arrested in Eseke, while two others were apprehended in Igbeti, Olorunsogo Local Government Area.
Zaccheus disclosed the development to journalists on Tuesday, explaining that the suspects were allegedly found in possession of sophisticated rifles at the time of their arrests.
He added that the suspects had been handed over to the police at Ikoyi-Ile and Igbeti for further investigation
The Old Oyo National Park, which spans 10 local government areas in Oyo State and one local government area in neighbouring Kwara State, has experienced repeated security challenges in recent years.

The security situation further deteriorated in May 2026 when 39 students and seven teachers were reportedly abducted from communities in Oriire Local Government Area. The victims were allegedly held captive by their abductors within the park.
The latest arrests are expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities in the area.
However, the suspects’ alleged involvement in the reported crimes has yet to be established through a judicial process.
The police are expected to conduct further investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the arrests and establish any possible links between the suspects and previous kidnapping incidents.
