The family of 43-year-old commercial bus driver, Ifeanyi Christopher Nworie, has demanded justice following his death after he was allegedly shot during violence surrounding the National Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship campaign flag-off in Enugu State.
Nworie, popularly known as Agima, was reportedly returning home after dropping off passengers when he encountered chaos near Parklane Hospital in Enugu on Saturday.
According to his elder brother, Afam Nworie, the deceased stopped his Toyota bus to find out what was happening before stepping out of the vehicle. He alleged that a bullet struck his brother in the chest, leaving him critically injured.
The family said Nworie was rushed to Parklane Hospital before being referred to other medical facilities. After examinations at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, he was reportedly transferred to a private hospital, where doctors demanded ₦4 million for emergency surgery.
Afam said the family raised the money, and the surgery was initially reported to have been successful. However, Nworie later died in the Intensive Care Unit on Sunday.
The grieving family alleged that security operatives were responsible for the shooting and called for the arrest and prosecution of everyone involved, including their alleged sponsors.

They also expressed disappointment over what they described as a lack of communication from the Enugu State Government and the police following the incident.
The family further disclosed that Nworie, who was preparing to formalise his marriage plans, was not a politician or campaigner but an innocent passerby caught up in the violence.
His death has left his 83-year-old mother devastated, according to his elder brother.
As of the time of the report, neither the Enugu State Government nor the police had publicly responded to the family’s allegations, and no arrests had been announced in connection with the incident.
The family is urging the authorities to investigate the killing, identify those responsible and ensure that justice is served.
