
Veteran Nigerian actor Olu Jacobs has been laid to rest in Lagos following a funeral service held on Friday.
Jacobs, who died in September at the age of 82, was buried after a funeral ceremony at the Freedom Center in Lekki, Lagos.
The event was attended by family members, friends, colleagues, dignitaries and several Nollywood stars who gathered to pay their final respects to the respected actor.
Among those present were Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
Other notable attendees included Shaffy Bello, Keppy Ekpeyong, Stan Nze, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, Ireti Doyle, Lala Akindoju, Kate Henshaw, OC Ukeje, Patrick Doyle, Stephanie Okereke and Ernest Obi.
A night of tributes and a service of songs had earlier been held on Wednesday in honour of the late actor.
Born in 1942 to parents from Egba Alake, Jacobs grew up in Kano, where he attended Holy Trinity School and developed an interest in drama and debating.
His passion for acting grew after watching a performance by Hubert Ogunde’s concert party at the Colonial Hotel in Kano, which later inspired him to travel to England for professional training.

He studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and began his stage career in 1972 with a role in A Taste of Honey at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
Jacobs later appeared in several British television productions before returning to Nigeria in 1990, where he starred in the NTA detective series The Third Eye.
He went on to feature in hundreds of Nollywood films and became one of Nigeria’s most respected actors.
Throughout his career, Jacobs received several honours, including the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2021 Africa International Film Festival, an Icon Award from the Audio-Visual Rights Society of Nigeria in 2022 and the Industry Merit Award at the 2023 AMVCA.
