Two weeks after five Islamic clerics were abducted by bandits in Zamfara State, their whereabouts remain unknown as their families and communities struggle to raise a reported ₦30 million ransom.
The imams were kidnapped on September 13 while travelling to Talata Mafara for a prayer session. Relatives said the bandits initially demanded ₦100 million before negotiations reduced the ransom to ₦30 million.
Sources also alleged that security operations to rescue the clerics were frustrated by informants who reportedly alerted the bandits to the movement of security personnel.

Meanwhile, a separate bandit attack on a livestock market in Tsafe reportedly left one person dead, while seven others were abducted in an earlier attack on the town.
The renewed attacks have heightened fears among residents, particularly farmers and traders whose livelihoods depend on access to farmlands and markets.
