The Niger State Police Command has arrested two men over the alleged vandalism of a communication mast in Minna and the theft of solar batteries.
The suspects, identified as 34-year-old Ogbonna David and 30-year-old Chidiebere Okonkwo, were arrested on September 20 along the Paiko-Lapai Road after police intercepted a vehicle suspected to have been stolen.
According to the police, four people were in the vehicle, including a suspected soldier who allegedly acted as an escort. The group was reportedly traced to the Brighter area of Minna, where a communication mast was allegedly vandalised and solar batteries stolen.
The police said the suspected soldier and another accomplice escaped after the vehicle was intercepted, while the two arrested suspects were taken into custody.

Items reportedly recovered from the vehicle include four solar batteries, military camouflage uniforms, boots, a green beret, phones, two gas cylinders, ₦26,000 cash, a knife and other tools.
The two suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
In a separate incident, police also arrested a 35-year-old woman, Lami Bako, after she was intercepted at Kainji Junction with a crying two-month-old baby. Police said the woman admitted she was not the child’s biological mother, and investigations are ongoing to identify the baby’s mother and reunite them.
