A minor fire broke out at the Idu train station in Abuja after an electrical fault affected part of the station’s low-voltage electrical room.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) said the incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, and was quickly contained by maintenance personnel.
According to the corporation, an initial inspection showed that some electrical supply cables connected to the control panels had been damaged.
The NRC said its alternative solar power system was not affected by the incident.
It added that power had been temporarily restored to the station’s lifts and escalators, with five of the six facilities currently operational.

The corporation assured passengers that the incident did not disrupt the Abuja-Kaduna train service, stressing that scheduled operations would continue as planned.
The NRC said its technical team was carrying out further assessments to determine the cause of the electrical fault and permanently restore the affected installations.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company has also been notified to provide the necessary technical support.
