Nigerian troops operating under Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military position in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack reportedly occurred on Monday, September 7, 2026, during ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the area.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), the terrorists launched an intense assault on the military location but were unable to overrun the troops.
Goni said the soldiers responded with sustained firepower and resisted the attack, forcing the terrorists to withdraw from the area with casualties.
The Nigerian Air Force also provided support through the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai. Its Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities helped troops monitor the situation, while air strikes were conducted against identified hostile elements as the terrorists attempted to retreat.
The Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) equally supported the operation by providing local intelligence and assisting security forces with situational awareness.

However, one soldier sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm during the encounter. He was evacuated for medical treatment and stabilised, with the military saying he is responding to treatment and remains in stable condition.
Following the attack, troops commenced exploitation operations to assess the damage inflicted on the terrorists, recover weapons and equipment abandoned during the assault and gather intelligence for possible follow-up operations.
The military said its positions in Pulka remain firmly under the control of security forces and that troops have maintained heightened alert across the area.
Goni added that aggressive patrols, surveillance and other offensive and defensive operations would continue to restrict the movement and activities of terrorist elements in the region.
The military also urged residents to remain vigilant and report credible information about suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest security formation.
The latest operation highlights the continued collaboration between ground troops, the Nigerian Air Force and the CJTF in countering terrorist threats in Nigeria’s North-East.
