
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspects over the alleged mob killing of a man identified as Basit Kolade on Lagos Island, just weeks before his planned wedding.
Kolade was reportedly travelling with his spouse in a black Lexus Jeep from Ebute Metta towards Lagos Island at about 10:40pm on Wednesday, September 2, when a motorcycle allegedly collided with the vehicle on Freeman Street.
According to the police, an argument reportedly followed the incident. The situation escalated after the vehicle allegedly reversed and struck the motorcycle, causing the rider and the motorcycle to fall.
The incident reportedly attracted a group of people who allegedly attacked Kolade with dangerous weapons. While the attack was ongoing, his spouse was reportedly rescued by women in the area.
Kolade was subsequently rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The motorcycle rider survived and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The police identified the four arrested suspects as Khalid Rafiq, 20; Gafar Rahim, 21; Ibrahim Azeez, 33; and Samos Momoh, 21.
The Lagos State Police Command said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals allegedly involved in the attack.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Fatai Tijani, directed that anyone found culpable should be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.
The police assured the public that the investigation would be conducted professionally and thoroughly.
