The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has rescued 15 minors allegedly trafficked and sold to buyers for ₦2 million each in Nasarawa State.

The victims were reportedly taken from communities in Kokona Local Government Area after a suspected member of a human trafficking syndicate allegedly deceived their parents with promises of free education.

The NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, disclosed the development during a press briefing at the corps’ headquarters in Abuja on Friday.

According to Afolabi, the suspect allegedly presented himself as an official of the National Council of Child Rights Advocate and operated under the guise of running an NGO and orphanage programme known as the “Back to School Project.”

He reportedly targeted less-privileged parents in Kama Madaki and Gudindi Mada communities, convincing them to release their children with assurances that they would receive free education.

Afolabi said the NSCDC Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, led by Commander Dandaura Appollos, tracked the children and their alleged buyers through field tracking, technical intelligence and coordinated operations across several states.

He said 15 of the 16 children reportedly trafficked were rescued from their alleged buyers. Three victims were rescued in Anambra, Imo and Enugu states, while 12 others were recovered during coordinated operations along eastern transit routes.
Three suspected buyers, including one man and two women, were also arrested in connection with the case.

The NSCDC said investigations are ongoing and that anyone found culpable would face prosecution.
The corps reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against human trafficking and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities involving children to the appropriate authorities.
