
Several people have reportedly been killed following a fresh attack by suspected armed herdsmen on multiple communities in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to reports, the attackers stormed the Mbaterem axis in the early hours of Sunday, invading Ayaba, Ukpen, Bom, Aboajio, and Yina communities at about 5:00 a.m.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants, who reportedly arrived on motorcycles, opened fire indiscriminately, forcing residents to flee into nearby bushes to escape the violence.
A resident, Emmanuel Oryiman Mbatsavdue, disclosed that at least four people had already been confirmed dead in Aboajio, while many families were still searching for missing relatives.

He noted that the death toll could increase as search and rescue efforts continued across the affected communities.
Confirming the incident, the Executive Chairman of Ukum Local Government Area, Hon. Jonathan Modi, said an attack had occurred but explained that authorities were still working to determine the exact number of casualties.
He added that security personnel had been deployed to the affected areas and were carrying out an assessment of the situation.
The spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Orchia Aondogwu, also confirmed the attack, assuring residents that more information would be released as investigations continued.
The latest incident adds to the growing security concerns in parts of Benue State, where recurring attacks have continued to threaten lives and displace communities.
