
A 64-year-old grandfather, Abubakar Aliyu, has been arrested in Gombe State for allegedly sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl at his medicine shop in Arawa Quarters.
Aliyu was arrested after the girl’s mother reported the incident to security authorities. During questioning, the suspect reportedly admitted that the abuse occurred on three occasions.
The suspect was paraded by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Public Relations Officer, CSC Saad Buhari.
Aliyu claimed that the girl came to his shop around 11pm to buy medicine. He said the incident happened after she remained at the shop despite the late hour.
The suspect also disclosed that he gave the girl N200 on one occasion and N400 on other occasions.
Expressing regret, Aliyu described his actions as a temptation and said the incident had damaged his reputation in the community.
He further said his wife had warned him to stay away from the girl, but he failed to heed the warning.

Family members said the incident had caused tension between them and residents of the area. One of Aliyu’s children said the family had become uncomfortable with the allegations and did not want their children around him.
The NSCDC said the suspect would be charged before a court in Gombe after the completion of investigations.
The corps added that the alleged offences violated provisions of the Gombe State Penal Code Law and the Child Protection Law.
