A 36-year-old woman, Sadiat Yunusa, has been arrested by the Kwara State Police Command over the alleged killing of a three-year-old girl, Ummaiyat Y., in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 25, after the child’s mother left her in the care of a relative while she went to Kaiama Central Market.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, investigators were alerted after a report of the child’s suspicious death was lodged at the Kaiama Divisional Police Headquarters. Preliminary findings indicated that the suspect allegedly lured the girl to a nearby farm settlement, where she was strangled.

The police said swift investigations led to Yunusa’s arrest. During questioning, she allegedly confessed to the crime, claiming it was driven by resentment stemming from long-standing domestic issues.
Investigators alleged that the suspect told them she felt neglected by her husband, who she claimed had shifted his attention and support to his second wife, leaving her and her three children without adequate care.
The police have since charged the suspect to court for prosecution.
Commissioner Adekimi reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of violent crimes and urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities promptly.
