The Kano State Police Command has successfully recovered two stolen vehicles linked to separate incidents and arrested one suspect as part of ongoing operations targeting vehicle theft syndicates.
In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the recoveries were carried out by operatives of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) under the Inspector-General of Police’s intelligence-led and community-based policing strategy.
According to the statement, one of the vehicles—a white Toyota Hilux with registration number KMC 25—was stolen on July 26.
The vehicle had been parked along Lamido Crescent in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State. Its owner, Zaiyyad Farouk, reported that his driver left the vehicle at about 10:35 p.m., only to discover it missing upon return.
Following the report, SIS operatives launched a swift investigation, tracked the vehicle, and recovered it from a suspect identified as Abdussalam Salisu in Kurna Asabe Quarters, Kano.
The vehicle has since been returned to its rightful owner after proper verification. Police authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects connected to the theft.
In a separate operation, the command also recovered a black Hyundai Elantra that was stolen on July 10 from the premises of Annur Mosque in Abuja. Acting on intelligence, operatives traced the vehicle to Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

However, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled upon sighting security personnel during a coordinated operation on July 22.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are part of an interstate vehicle theft syndicate operating across Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano States.
The recovered Hyundai Elantra is currently undergoing documentation processes before being handed over to its owner.
Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Bakori, praised their professionalism and swift response, emphasizing the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
“The dedication of our officers reflects our resolve to combat crime and ensure the safety of residents. We will continue to pursue all fleeing suspects and dismantle criminal networks operating within and beyond the state,” Bakori stated.
He also urged residents to enhance the security of their vehicles and provide timely, credible information to aid police operations.
The Kano State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to proactive policing and assured the public that ongoing efforts would lead to the arrest of all individuals involved in the criminal activities.
