Tension is rising in Taraba State following a fresh machete attack allegedly involving a member of the Taraba State Marshal Corps, barely a week after public outrage over the controversial death of a teenager in the state.
The latest incident occurred in Takum Local Government Area, where a resident, Emmanuel Abonta, was reportedly attacked with a cutlass during a heated confrontation with a marshal attached to the council.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that what began as a verbal argument quickly escalated into violence, with the marshal allegedly drawing a machete and inflicting injuries on Abonta’s hand.
The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in Takum, where he is currently receiving treatment.
As of the time of this report, authorities in Taraba State and the leadership of the Marshal Corps have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. The circumstances leading to the altercation also remain unclear.
This development comes amid heightened public concern over the conduct of some members of the Marshal Corps, following the recent alleged assault that led to the death of 15-year-old Busang Ayuka an incident that sparked widespread condemnation and demands for accountability.

Residents and community leaders in Takum have expressed growing frustration, calling for a thorough and transparent investigation into the latest attack. They insist that any officer found culpable must be brought to justice.
A community elder, Bernard Useni, described the situation as alarming, noting that misconduct among some marshals is becoming increasingly frequent and unacceptable.
Similarly, another local leader, Maina Uba, advocated stricter recruitment processes, including mandatory drug screening for prospective members of the corps. He suggested that substance abuse could be contributing to the rising cases of violence.
Residents have also called for improved training, discipline, and stronger oversight mechanisms within the Marshal Corps to prevent further incidents and restore public trust.
As investigations continue, many are urging the government to act decisively, ensuring transparency, accountability, and reforms that will safeguard citizens from abuse by security personnel.
