The Nigerian Navy has dismantled nine illegal refining sites and recovered approximately 104,000 litres of products believed to be stolen crude oil during a targeted operation in Rivers State.
The operation, carried out by personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Bonny under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, followed credible intelligence reports, according to an official statement released on Thursday.
Naval operatives stormed illegal refining hubs located in the Wakama/Bolo and Aworkiri communities within Bonny Local Government Area, successfully disrupting the activities of suspected oil theft syndicates in the region.
During the raid, a total of 23 dugout pits were discovered across the sites. Eighteen of the pits contained an estimated 104,000 litres of suspected stolen crude, while five newly prepared pits intended for illegal refining were destroyed before becoming operational.

In addition, security personnel recovered eight locally fabricated refining pots and three large storage tanks, dealing a significant blow to the illicit operations.
The Navy confirmed that all recovered items and dismantled facilities were handled in accordance with established anti-crude oil theft protocols.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Nigerian Navy stated that the operation highlights ongoing efforts to safeguard the nation’s critical oil and gas infrastructure and curb illegal refining activities in the Niger Delta region.
