The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued four kidnapped victims following a gun battle with suspected bandits along the Akwanga–Jos Road in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.
The operation was carried out on Tuesday night after police received a distress call that armed kidnappers were attacking commuters near Megona Filling Station in Andaha.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, operatives attached to the Andaha Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, swiftly mobilised to the scene.
On arrival, the suspected kidnappers reportedly opened fire on the police team, prompting a gun duel. The officers responded with what the command described as superior tactical firepower, forcing the suspects to flee into the surrounding bush with suspected gunshot wounds.

The fleeing kidnappers abandoned all four abducted victims, who were rescued unharmed during the operation.
Police also recovered several food items and other provisions believed to have been stolen from a nearby provision store. The recovered items have been taken into police custody as investigations continue.
Commending the operatives for their swift response, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, praised their professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
He directed an intensive manhunt for the fleeing suspects, ordering that all available operational and intelligence resources be deployed to ensure their arrest.
The police said the ongoing search operation is being conducted in collaboration with military personnel, local vigilantes and hunters, with bush-combing efforts continuing in the area.
The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in combating crime across Nasarawa State.
