The Osun State Police Command has arrested several suspected hoodlums, political thugs and robbery suspects in a series of operations aimed at tackling crime and maintaining public order across the state.
Speaking at a press briefing in Osogbo, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the arrests followed recent security operations in different parts of the state.
According to the police, officers responded to clashes on July 20 after rival factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) allegedly fought over access to a motor park in Osogbo. Security personnel restored calm before another emergency was reported later that day in the Oke-Ijetu area.
Police said armed hoodlums opened fire in the community, prompting the deployment of operatives from the Anti-Robbery and Violent Crime Response Unit. During the exchange, three security operatives sustained gunshot injuries and are receiving medical treatment.
One suspect, Adedeji Saheed Opeyemi, 40, was arrested during the operation. Investigators said he allegedly confessed to being invited to the scene by another suspect identified as Sibi, who reportedly handed him a pump-action gun on the instruction of a man known as Wakili Alowonle.
Police recovered six expended cartridges, four vehicles, four motorcycles, military camouflage and suspected criminal charms from the operation.

In a separate operation, detectives arrested two suspected political thugs, Alawode Ridwan, 26, and Ajibade Ahmed, 33, over allegations of causing unrest in the Amadia area of Osogbo on July 16.
The command also arrested three suspects linked to the theft of a Bajaj motorcycle stolen from a commercial rider in Osunjela. Acting on intelligence, officers recovered the motorcycle in Modakeke about two hours after the incident.
Police identified the suspects as Kamarudeen Babatunde, 39, Lekan Usman, 22, and Moses Oyebade, 40, who was allegedly in possession of the stolen motorcycle.
The police said all suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
