
Suspected gunmen have released two of the three siblings who were abducted while transporting their mother’s corpse from Abuja to Benue State for burial.
The victims were reportedly kidnapped in the early hours of Saturday, around 4 a.m., while traveling to Iklenyi community in Okpokwu Local Government Area.
The incident occurred between Omutele and Ankpechi along the Ogobia–Otukpo Road in Oglewu District of Ohimini LGA.
According to a local source, the kidnappers freed two of the siblings later that night and also dumped their mother’s corpse, allowing the family to proceed with burial rites. However, one sibling remains in captivity.

Confirming the development, the Chairman of Ohimini LGA, Gabriel Adole, stated that security operatives have launched a search operation in the surrounding forest to rescue the remaining victim.
“The corpse has been taken for burial, but one of the siblings is still with the abductors. Security personnel, including police and soldiers, are currently combing the area to ensure a safe rescue,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, the Benue State Police Command noted that it was yet to receive an official briefing from the Divisional Police Officer in the affected area.
Authorities have assured residents that efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining captive and restore safety in the region.
