
A six-month-old baby narrowly escaped death after a fire outbreak razed part of a residential building in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The incident, which occurred around 8:38 p.m. on Saturday at Olomi Compound, reportedly started from the ground floor of a private one-storey building consisting of three rooms. Eyewitnesses attributed the fire to an unattended gas leak.
According to officials of the Oyo State Fire Service, the agency received a distress call from a resident, Mr. Abiodun Mayowa, alerting them to the situation. Firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, the emergency responders found the ground floor engulfed in flames. The team swiftly commenced firefighting operations, successfully containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to the upper floor and nearby buildings.

In the course of the rescue operation, the six-month-old baby was safely evacuated from the burning structure, escaping what could have been a fatal incident.
Speaking on the development, the Chairman of the Fire Services Reform in the state, Morrof Akinwande, confirmed that the fire was caused by a gas leak and commended the quick response of the firefighters.
He also emphasized the importance of fire safety measures, urging residents to ensure proper installation and regular maintenance of gas cylinders and appliances.
He further advised the public to equip homes and workplaces with functional fire extinguishers to mitigate risks.
No fatalities were recorded, and the situation has since been brought under control.
