
Tension has gripped parts of Benue State following a fresh wave of deadly attacks by suspected armed herdsmen in Otukpo Local Government Area, leaving multiple residents feared dead and several others injured.
According to reports, the violence began on Saturday in Akpachi village, located within the Ugboju community, where two persons were killed during the initial assault. Several others sustained injuries as the attackers reportedly stormed the area without warning.
Less than 24 hours later, the attackers struck again in a coordinated follow-up attack on Otukpo Nobi community in the early hours of Sunday. At least eight people were confirmed killed in the second incident, with many others left wounded.
The renewed violence has sparked outrage among residents, particularly youths, who took to the streets in protest. The demonstrators marched to the Och’Idoma Palace in Otukpo, demanding urgent intervention from the government and security agencies to curb the escalating insecurity in the region.

This latest development comes barely one month after the killing of the Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed, alongside his associate, Yakubu Isah.
The duo were reportedly attacked and killed near Okwudu in Otukpo LGA after attending a peace meeting in Ohimini Local Government Area.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities are yet to release an official statement on the latest attacks, while residents continue to live in fear of further violence.
