
No fewer than 10 members of a single family have been brutally killed following a late-night attack by suspected bandits in Plateau State.
The tragic incident occurred at Wereng-Camp in Kum village, located in Riyom Local Government Area, where armed assailants reportedly stormed the community under the cover of darkness.
According to local sources, the attackers struck at about 11 p.m. on Saturday, opening fire on residents who had already retired for the night.
The assault lasted for approximately two hours, ending around 1 a.m., before the gunmen fled into nearby bushes and rocky terrain.

The President of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, confirmed the attack in a statement, revealing that intelligence from residents identified the perpetrators as suspected Fulani militias.
He stated that the gunmen carried out a coordinated attack, killing 10 members of one family and leaving several others injured.
Also confirming the incident, the National Publicity Secretary of the association, Rwang Tengwom, described the attack as one of the deadliest in recent times in the area.
He added that a village head sustained life-threatening injuries during the assault and is currently receiving medical attention.
The incident has heightened tension in the community, with residents calling for urgent intervention by security agencies to prevent further attacks.
As of the time of this report, authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
