The Ogun State Police Command has killed two suspected kidnappers during a tactical operation carried out days after the successful rescue of an abducted traditional prince in the state.
Police said the operation was conducted by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit following intelligence gathered after the safe release of Prince Idris of Okun Owa, who was kidnapped from his residence on June 30, 2026.
According to the command, the prince was abducted when armed men invaded his home in the Okun Owa community at about 7:30 p.m. The Commissioner of Police immediately deployed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams to secure his freedom and track down those responsible.

After several days of coordinated operations and sustained pressure on the kidnappers, the victim regained his freedom unharmed on July 3, 2026.
The police later intensified efforts to arrest the suspects. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives stormed a hideout in the Agoro/Imodi area, where they reportedly came under gunfire from the suspected kidnappers.
Security operatives returned fire, killing two members of the gang, while others escaped with suspected gunshot injuries.
During a search of the scene, officers recovered an AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag believed to have been used for collecting ransom, and other items considered relevant to the investigation.
The bodies of the deceased suspects were taken to a government morgue, while police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons or exhibits
Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police praised the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams for their professionalism and bravery. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal gangs and strengthening security across the state.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information that could assist security agencies in preventing and combating crime.
