Egypt have officially lodged a complaint with FIFA following their controversial 3-2 defeat to Argentina in the Round of 16 at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Egyptian Football Association is calling for disciplinary action against match referee, François Letexier, insisting he should be barred from officiating any further games in the tournament.
Head coach of the Pharaohs, Hossam Hassan, openly criticized the officiating, describing it as “unfair” and suggesting that the outcome of the match appeared to favor Argentina.

The match itself was a dramatic encounter, with Argentina scoring three goals within a 13-minute spell to overturn the game and secure a place in the quarter-finals, where they are set to face Switzerland.
However, the decisive moment has sparked controversy. Egypt claimed they were denied a clear penalty just moments before Argentina launched a counter-attack, which ultimately resulted in Enzo Fernández heading home a stoppage-time winner in the 92nd minute.
The complaint now puts FIFA under pressure to review the officiating decisions, as debates over fairness and refereeing standards continue to dominate discussions around the tournament.
