The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 19-year-old, Timileyin Oni, following a suspected cult-related attack in Ijebu-Jesa, while three other victims are receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the incident.
According to the police, the attack occurred around 11 p.m. on Monday at the T and K Junction in Ijebu-Jesa. Officers who responded to a distress call found Oni with a suspected gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, before his body was deposited in the mortuary.
Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi said preliminary investigations indicate the violence may be linked to cult activities, especially as security agencies had earlier warned against cult-related celebrations associated with July 7 (7/7).
