Two senior terrorist commanders have surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Borno State, marking another development in the military’s ongoing counter-insurgency campaign in Nigeria’s North-East.
According to the military, the commanders surrendered to troops of Sector 2 in Geidam on July 4, 2026, before arriving in Maiduguri the following day. They are currently in military custody, where they are undergoing profiling, debriefing and intelligence assessment.
In a statement issued by the Acting Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, the military identified the two men as “Munzirs,” describing them as senior figures within the terrorist leadership structure.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the surrendered commanders held influential roles within the group and possess detailed knowledge of its operations, leadership hierarchy, logistics and support systems.
Military authorities said information obtained during the initial debriefing has already provided useful intelligence that could help ongoing operations aimed at locating and dismantling remaining terrorist hideouts across the North-East.
Operation HADIN KAI described the surrender as another major setback for the terrorist group, noting that sustained land and air offensives, backed by intelligence-led operations, have continued to weaken the insurgents’ fighting capacity and restrict their movement.
The military added that increasing operational pressure has forced more terrorist leaders and fighters to abandon the insurgency and surrender.
It reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the offensive until all terrorist elements are either neutralised or compelled to lay down their arms, while continuing to work with relevant stakeholders to restore lasting peace and security across the region.
