
France captain Kylian Mbappe has moved to the top of the goalscoring chart at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after scoring his seventh goal of the tournament in France’s 1-0 victory over Paraguay.
Mbappe converted a second-half penalty to help France secure a place in the quarter-finals. With seven goals and two assists, the Real Madrid forward currently leads the Golden Boot standings ahead of Argentina captain Lionel Messi, who also has seven goals but is behind on assists.

Messi will have another opportunity to strengthen his challenge for the Golden Boot when Argentina face Egypt in the Round of 16. The Inter Miami forward scored his 20th FIFA World Cup goal during Argentina’s 3-2 victory over Cape Verde in the previous round.
England captain Harry Kane and Norway striker Erling Haaland remain among the leading contenders, with both players on five goals.
Kane is expected to lead England against co-hosts Mexico in the Round of 16, while Haaland will spearhead Norway’s attack against Brazil as the battle for the tournament’s top scorer continues.
