
The family of a police inspector who was critically injured during a gunmen attack in Rivers State has appealed to Nigerians for urgent financial assistance to support his medical treatment.
The officer, identified as Inspector Godday Aleru, sustained serious gunshot wounds during an attack on Monday night in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area, where armed men reportedly opened fire on police officers on routine duty.
According to the family, the inspector is currently receiving treatment in hospital but requires about ₦1 million to begin critical medical care. They said they are unable to raise the amount needed and appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to come to his aid.

His wife said the injured officer is in severe pain and urgently needs financial support to continue treatment.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 9 p.m. while officers attached to the Aluu Divisional Police Station were conducting a stop-and-search operation along the Mbodo-Aluu axis of Obiri Ikwerre Road. Gunmen allegedly opened fire on the team, killing two police officers at the scene and leaving Inspector Aleru with life-threatening injuries.
Videos circulating on social media showed the wounded inspector receiving treatment in hospital, while separate footage captured the bodies of the two slain officers at the scene of the attack.
The motive for the attack has not been disclosed, and security authorities have yet to announce any arrests in connection with the incident.
Following the attack, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, accompanied by members of the command’s management team, visited the scene to assess the situation as investigations into the incident continue.
