
The Ondo State Police Command has successfully rescued a 61-year-old woman, Mrs. Modupe Oladele, who was abducted by armed men in Owo Local Government Area of the state.
The rescue operation, which followed a fierce gun battle between police operatives and the suspected kidnappers, also led to the recovery of the victim’s stolen vehicle.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident occurred in the early hours of June 23, 2026, when armed hoodlums forcefully invaded Mrs. Oladele’s residence and abducted her at gunpoint.
The attackers reportedly fled the scene with her Toyota Matrix vehicle shortly after the abduction.
Upon receiving a distress call around 2:50 a.m., the Divisional Police Officer of B Division in Owo swiftly mobilised a team of operatives who launched a coordinated pursuit of the fleeing suspects.
The police team later intercepted the kidnappers in a bush area around Ojana Phase 3, where an intense exchange of gunfire ensued.

Overpowered by the superior tactical response of the police, the suspects abandoned the victim and fled into the surrounding forest, with some believed to have sustained gunshot injuries.
Mrs. Oladele was rescued unhurt, and her stolen vehicle was successfully recovered at the scene.
Items recovered from the scene included two expended cartridges, a sandal suspected to belong to one of the fleeing criminals, and a torchlight.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for their bravery and swift response, reiterating the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing efforts in combating crime.
Meanwhile, the police have intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects, while investigations into the incident continue.
