France captain Kylian Mbappe has surpassed Miroslav Klose’s World Cup goalscoring record after another brilliant display at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 27-year-old forward scored twice in France’s 3-0 victory over Sweden, helping his team book a place in the Round of 16 while continuing his impressive run of form.
Mbappe now has six goals and two assists at the tournament, putting him ahead of Argentina captain Lionel Messi in the Golden Boot race. Although both players have scored six goals, Mbappe leads the standings thanks to his two assists, while Messi is yet to register an assist.
