A suspected notorious bandit, identified as Auta Yankuzo, has reportedly stirred fresh controversy after allegedly sharing an image of large sums of money believed to be proceeds from kidnap ransom on TikTok.
The claim was brought to public attention by conflict journalist Bakatsine, who disclosed the development via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday. According to him, the image was uploaded on Tuesday through Yankuzo’s TikTok account.
Bakatsine, known for tracking insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West region, noted that while the post appeared recent, there were indications suggesting the photograph might have been taken earlier.
“Bandits’ TikToker Auta Yankuzo posted a ransom payment on his account yesterday. However, the image seems to be from a previous transaction as the ground appears too dry to reflect current conditions,” he stated.
The incident has further intensified concerns over the growing use of social media platforms by criminal elements to showcase illicit activities and intimidate the public.

This development follows the circulation of a recent viral video showing armed bandits displaying bundles of cash allegedly obtained through ransom payments, raising alarm about the scale and persistence of kidnapping operations across the country.
Kidnapping for ransom continues to pose a significant security challenge in Nigeria, particularly in the North-West and parts of the North-Central regions.
Armed groups frequently target communities, commuters, schools, and farmers despite ongoing military efforts to curb their activities.
Security analysts warn that the apparent boldness of such groups online reflects deeper systemic challenges in addressing insecurity and may further embolden criminal networks if not urgently tackled.
