Troops of the 8 Division Garrison under Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) have successfully foiled a planned bandit attack on several communities in Zamfara State, recovering weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and military uniforms in the process.
The operation was carried out following credible intelligence reports indicating that armed bandits were mobilising to launch attacks on villages around the Hanger axis in Shinkafi Local Government Area.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops strategically positioned themselves at Kwanar Jollof in Jangeru Village, where they laid an ambush for the suspected attackers.
Upon sighting the troops, the bandits were engaged in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee into nearby forests.
Items recovered from the scene include a PKT machine gun, a cache of ammunition, two motorcycles, chains, and eight pairs of military uniforms.
Security sources revealed that the recovered uniforms were being used by the bandits to impersonate military personnel and deceive unsuspecting residents.

“The criminals often disguise themselves in military uniforms to gain the trust of locals before carrying out their attacks,” a source disclosed.
The military attributed the success of the operation to effective intelligence gathering and sustained offensives under Operation Fansan Yamma, which is aimed at curbing the activities of terrorists and criminal elements across the North-West region.
Zamfara State remains one of the worst-hit areas by banditry in Nigeria, with armed groups operating from forest enclaves and frequently carrying out attacks, kidnappings, and other criminal activities.
Military authorities have reiterated their commitment to intensifying operations to restore peace in the region.
They also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity.
