A Lagos-based security officer, Adebanjo Samuel, has been commended for demonstrating rare integrity after he returned a customer’s forgotten $9,100 at a First City Monument Bank (FCMB) branch in Marina, Lagos.
The incident reportedly occurred on May 25, 2026, while Adebanjo was on duty with Proton Security Service Limited, a private security firm assigned to the bank. The money was said to have been misplaced by a customer within the banking hall.
According to a statement from the security company, the officer immediately reported and returned the cash without hesitation, an action the firm described as a reflection of discipline, professionalism, and strong ethical standards among its personnel.

The management of Proton Security said Adebanjo’s conduct had strengthened confidence in their operations and the broader private security industry. The company also announced plans to honour him at a special reception in recognition of his honesty.
Reacting to the recognition, Adebanjo said his decision was guided by personal principles rather than the value of the money involved. He explained that he was raised to always do what is right regardless of circumstances, adding that integrity should never be compromised.
He also expressed appreciation to his employer for instilling strong ethical values, saying the recognition would further encourage him to remain steadfast in upholding honesty in the line of duty.
The company added that the incident serves as an example of how individual acts of integrity can strengthen public trust and inspire others, especially young Nigerians, to embrace honesty as a core value.
