
The Kwara State Police Command has arrested eight individuals suspected of involvement in cult-related activities during a coordinated security operation in Ilorin, the state capital.
According to police authorities, the operation was carried out by officers of the Anti-Cultism Unit alongside other tactical teams following intelligence reports about the activities of suspected cult groups in parts of the metropolis.
The raids were conducted in the Akuo and Fagba areas of Ilorin, where security operatives apprehended the suspects and recovered a cache of weapons and other items believed to be linked to criminal activities.
Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to combat cultism and violent crimes across the state. She noted that the suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue.

Items recovered during the operation reportedly included locally fabricated firearms, a pump-action shotgun, cut-to-size shotguns, spent cartridges, and other dangerous weapons.
The police stated that investigators are working to determine the level of involvement of each suspect and to identify other individuals who may be connected to the alleged criminal network. Efforts are also underway to track down additional suspects who may have fled during the operation.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety and preventing criminal groups from operating within the state. Authorities added that anyone found culpable after investigations would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo commended the officers involved in the operation and attributed the success of the raid to intelligence-driven policing strategies. He also urged residents to continue providing useful information that could assist security agencies in tackling crime and ensuring a safer environment for all.
