The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into self-acclaimed prophet Godwin Sunday Ajuluchukwucheya, popularly known as Prophet Sunday Koboko, over allegations that he defrauded members of his ministry of N70.39 million.
According to the anti-graft agency, the suspect allegedly collected money from church members through various schemes, promising spiritual interventions, financial breakthroughs, and investment opportunities.
One petitioner, Okey Uwakwe, claimed he paid N6.23 million for spiritual services aimed at persuading his brother, who had lived abroad since 1997, to return to Nigeria. He also alleged that he paid N3.25 million for spiritual works intended to help his childless sister-in-law conceive after more than 15 years without a child.
Investigators further revealed that the suspect allegedly informed church members that he had won a N33 billion lottery and encouraged them to contribute funds with promises of sharing in the supposed winnings.
Uwakwe said he contributed N3.35 million to the scheme and another N500,000 toward a rice-processing business allegedly valued at N1 billion.
The petitioner stated that he paid a total of N13.33 million without receiving any of the promised benefits.
The EFCC said several other ministry members later came forward with similar complaints. Some alleged that the suspect sold items described as “holy ghost thunder,” “miracle stickers,” and “spiritual dragons,” claiming they would bring prosperity and solve personal challenges.

One victim reportedly told investigators that despite making payments for the so-called spiritual items, none of the promised results materialized.
The commission said its investigation indicates that the total amount allegedly collected from ministry members stands at N70.39 million. The EFCC added that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged in court upon conclusion of the probe.
