
The Edo State Police Command has killed a suspected kidnapper and arrested another member of a gang linked to the abduction of a woman at the Vegetable Market in Benin City.
The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, disclosed this while parading suspects at the command headquarters in Benin City. He said operatives of the Intelligence Response Team acted on credible intelligence to arrest a 32-year-old suspect, Marvelous Issac, in connection with the kidnapping that occurred on June 14, 2026.
According to the police commissioner, another suspect identified as Precious was killed during an exchange of gunfire with security operatives during the operation.
Agbonika said investigations led to the recovery of a red Lexus RX 350 allegedly used by the kidnappers. He added that the arrested suspect confessed that the vehicle, alongside a pump-action shotgun and two live cartridges, was used during the crime.
The police also recovered N2.25 million suspected to be proceeds from the kidnapping, as well as a motorcycle believed to have been used by the gang.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing and efforts have been intensified to apprehend other members of the syndicate who remain at large.
Meanwhile, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo commended security agencies for their swift response and successful operation. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and cult-related crimes across the state.
The governor also revealed plans to establish a special court to handle cases involving kidnappers and cultists, ensuring speedy trials and convictions. He warned that convicted kidnappers would face the full weight of the law.
According to him, the successful operation demonstrates the commitment of security agencies to protecting residents and combating criminal activities in Edo State.
