
A police inspector attached to the Kogi State Government House security detail has lost an assault rifle and 30 rounds of live ammunition after thieves reportedly stole his vehicle in Lokoja.
Inspector Mohammed Abdullahi reportedly parked his Toyota Camry at the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Lokoja on the evening of June 13, leaving a police rifle and ammunition inside the vehicle.
According to police reports, he returned later to discover that the vehicle had been stolen. Security operatives immediately alerted divisions, patrol teams, and the Violent Crime Response Unit across Lokoja, while search efforts were launched to recover the vehicle and the missing firearm.

The vehicle was subsequently found abandoned opposite the Federal University, Felele, Lokoja. However, the assault rifle and ammunition were missing when the car was recovered.
Following the incident, police authorities launched a nationwide hunt for the missing rifle, directing commands, tactical units, detectives, and patrol teams to intensify efforts to recover the weapon and apprehend those responsible.
The development has raised security concerns as investigations continue into the theft and the whereabouts of the missing firearm.
