
Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued a mother and her six-month-old baby following a swift response to a kidnapping incident in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, while efforts continue to secure the release of three other abducted family members.
According to a statement released by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, the incident occurred late on June 3, 2026, when armed assailants invaded a residence near Solid Rock School in the Ijalu area of Egbe.
The attackers abducted five members of the same family, including a woman, her infant, and three other relatives before fleeing the scene.
Following a distress alert, troops of the 12 Brigade under the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army quickly mobilised in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) to track the kidnappers.
Security forces reportedly applied sustained pressure along the escape route, forcing the abductors to abandon two victims Mrs. Adekemi Idowu and her six-month-old childnear the Oro axis before escaping into nearby forested areas.

Both rescued victims were recovered unharmed and reunited with their family members.
The Army confirmed that search-and-rescue operations are still ongoing to locate the remaining three victims and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Lt. Abdullahi reiterated the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to provide timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing operations.
Security operations have since been intensified in the area as troops continue efforts to rescue the remaining captives and dismantle criminal networks responsible for the attack.
