A Nigerian soldier, Muhammad Abdulrauf, popularly known as “Didan Tero,” is battling for his life after being brutally attacked by a mob in Kaduna State who allegedly mistook him for a bandit.
The incident occurred in the Mai Gero community, where residents reportedly descended on the soldier amid heightened fear and tension caused by persistent bandit activities in the area.
Initial reports had claimed that Abdulrauf was killed during the attack, but new information confirms that he is alive and currently receiving treatment.
A reliable source disclosed that the soldier is hospitalised at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna, where he remains in critical condition.

Abdulrauf, a member of the Nigerian Army’s 21NA intake and widely known within the Jaji military community as a “Barrack Boy,” was said to be on leave from his deployment in Maiduguri, Borno State, at the time of the incident.
According to the source, suspicion was triggered by his appearance, as residents allegedly believed his outfit resembled that of bandits known to operate within the region.
“The community is already on edge due to ongoing insecurity. When they saw him, they assumed he was one of the bandits and attacked him,” the source explained.
Disturbing videos circulating online show the moment the soldier was assaulted by the mob, while subsequent footage captured him lying critically injured in a hospital bed.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident.
The development once again raises concerns over the growing trend of mob justice and the dangerous consequences of misinformation and fear in communities affected by insecurity.
Further updates are expected as the situation unfolds.
