
A body was discovered inside an abandoned vehicle near Iran’s FIFA World Cup training base in Tijuana, Mexico, raising security concerns as the tournament continues across North America.
The remains were found in the trunk of a gray Toyota SUV parked near Caliente Stadium, where the Iranian national team has been training ahead of its World Cup matches. Authorities said the vehicle, bearing California registration plates, appeared to have been left in the area for several days.
According to local prosecutors, police officers inspecting the suspicious vehicle discovered a person wrapped in a black bag inside the trunk. Officials noted that the victim showed signs of violence, though the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death were not immediately disclosed.

Forensic experts were seen examining the scene before removing the body for further investigation.
The discovery comes as Mexico, the United States, and Canada jointly host the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Iran’s team has been training under heightened security after relocating its base to Mexico amid ongoing regional tensions.
The Iranian squad is reportedly escorted between its hotel and training facility by armed security personnel. Team officials did not immediately comment on whether the incident would affect their security arrangements.
Tijuana, a border city known for high levels of violent crime linked to organized criminal groups, recorded more than 1,200 homicides in 2025, according to official figures.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the identity of the victim and the circumstances surrounding the death.
