
The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two additional suspects in connection with the abduction and assault of the Chairman of Ikere-West Local Council Development Area, Rufus Olorunfemi, and one Funso Ajayi.
The arrests, confirmed on Monday, bring the total number of suspects in custody to five, following the earlier apprehension of three individuals linked to the incident.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, the latest suspects identified as Daramola Sehinde and Oluyede Dapo were arrested on June 6, 2026, by the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit.
Abutu stated that the suspects are being investigated for alleged conspiracy, abduction, and assault causing harm.
He added that the police are intensifying efforts to apprehend other individuals connected to the crime, assuring that all suspects will be thoroughly investigated and charged to court accordingly.

Meanwhile, the Police Command has dismissed allegations by the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ayodeji Ogunsakin, who accused the police of intimidation, harassment, and unlawful arrests of party members ahead of the forthcoming election.
Refuting the claims, Abutu emphasized that no arrests were politically motivated or carried out unlawfully. He clarified that all individuals detained were linked strictly to criminal investigations.
“The Command remains committed to justice, professionalism, and the rule of law. We will not be distracted by propaganda or political pressure from carrying out our constitutional duties,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Michael Falade, also urged residents to remain law-abiding, avoid spreading false information, and stay vigilant, reiterating that the Command will not engage in unlawful detention or intimidation of citizens.
The police reaffirmed their resolve to maintain law and order across the state, regardless of political, religious, or cultural affiliations.
