
Eight shops have been destroyed after a fire outbreak engulfed a row of commercial stores at No. 2, Mobolorunduro, Balaro Street, Oju-Odo Academy area in Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, 2026, following a distress call that alerted emergency responders to the scene.
Firefighters, led by the duty officer, were quickly deployed to the location and upon arrival discovered that 8 out of 11 shops had already been severely affected by the blaze.
The emergency team was able to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading further to nearby buildings and properties.

Officials confirmed that no casualties were recorded in the incident. However, goods and property worth millions of naira were reportedly destroyed in the fire.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Moroof Akinwande, noted that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
He also urged residents and business owners to prioritize fire safety measures, including the installation of fire extinguishers and other preventive tools in commercial spaces.
The fire incident adds to a series of recent market-related fire outbreaks in Ibadan, raising renewed concerns about fire safety compliance in densely populated trading areas across the state.
