The latest incident marks the third suspected gas leak recorded in the area within the last two months. Similar incidents in April and May reportedly left dozens of students hospitalised, raising concerns among residents about the potential health effects of repeated exposure to the emissions.
Residents expressed worry over the recurring incidents and called on the government to urgently identify and eliminate the source of the leaks. Many fear the emissions could pose long-term health risks to people living and studying in the area.
State authorities confirmed the incident and said monitoring devices installed in the community had helped identify the source of the gas emission. Officials disclosed that the leak was traced to an area behind the school and assured residents that measures were being taken to address the situation.
The government also pledged to prevent future occurrences and ensure the safety of students, staff, and residents.
Meanwhile, concerned stakeholders have urged the Ogun State Government to provide a lasting solution, stressing that the wellbeing of residents must remain a top priority as investigations into the recurring gas leaks continue.
