A final-year student of Federal University Lokoja has been found dead along the Lokoja-Abuja Highway in Kogi State, prompting an investigation by security authorities.
The deceased, identified as Sarah Idoko, was reportedly discovered on Saturday night near the Crusher area along the Felele axis of Lokoja. Witnesses said a vehicle stopped briefly at the location around 8 p.m. before speeding away, raising suspicions that the victim may have been abandoned there by unknown persons.
Residents who later spotted the body by the roadside alerted security operatives, who arrived at the scene and commenced preliminary investigations.
Initial reports suggested that the deceased was a student of Kogi State Polytechnic after an identity card bearing her name was reportedly recovered at the scene.
However, the Kogi State Police Command later clarified that she was a final-year student of Federal University Lokoja.
Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Kankarofi, said the command had launched a full-scale investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the student’s death and bring those responsible to justice.

According to the police commissioner, detectives are working to uncover the events leading to the incident while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
The tragic development has sparked concern among students and residents of Lokoja. Reacting to the incident, the Association of Nigeria Female Students, Kogi State Chapter, condemned the killing and described it as unfortunate and disturbing.
In a statement issued by its State Coordinator, Celina James, the association called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible face the full weight of the law.
The group also urged authorities to strengthen security measures around campuses and student communities, noting that the incident has renewed concerns over safety along the Felele corridor, an area that has witnessed several security-related incidents in recent years.
As investigations continue, residents have appealed for increased security patrols and surveillance along major roads in Lokoja to prevent similar tragedies and enhance public safety.
