A Nigerian family living in the United Kingdom has been left homeless after a fire gutted their apartment in Plymouth, leaving their 10-year-old child hospitalised and destroying all their belongings.
The incident, which affected the Balogun family, occurred in their residence in Plymouth, where the fire reportedly spread rapidly and consumed the entire apartment before emergency services could fully contain it.
According to members of the Nigerian community in the UK, the child sustained injuries during the incident and was immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention, while two other children in the family were forced to seek temporary shelter with friends.
The former president of the Nigerian in the UK (NiUK) community, Benjamin Kuti, disclosed the development in a post on social media, describing the situation as devastating and calling for urgent support for the affected family.

He stated that the fire destroyed all the family’s possessions, including clothing, passports, and other important documents, leaving them without basic necessities and immediate means of recovery.
Kuti noted that the family is currently in distress and relying on assistance from the Nigerian community and well-wishers to rebuild their lives after the tragic incident.
Community members have since begun mobilising support, calling for donations of clothing, funds, and essential items to help the family recover from the disaster.
A fundraising campaign has also been launched to assist with emergency accommodation, food, childcare, and replacement of lost documents.
Organisers of the GoFundMe appeal said the family is now facing the difficult task of rebuilding their lives from scratch after losing everything in the fire.
The appeal continues to attract donations as supporters urge wider assistance for the family during this difficult period.
