
At least five people have lost their lives while 10 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a tragic lone road crash that occurred along the Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway in Ogun State on Thursday.
The accident happened around Iyana Egbado at about 11:12 a.m., involving a white Mazda E2000 bus carrying 20 passengers.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, the vehicle had six adult males, 11 adult females, one male child, and two female children on board at the time of the crash.
FRSC spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, confirmed that five passengers were burnt beyond recognition in the incident, including one adult male, two adult females, one male child, and one female child.

Ten others were injured, while five passengers escaped unhurt.
Preliminary findings attributed the crash to speeding and overloading, which reportedly caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Emergency responders evacuated the injured victims to General Hospital, Ifo, and Oreofe Specialist Hospital, Itori, where they are currently receiving treatment. The remains of the deceased were deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ifo.
The Ogun State FRSC Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to avoid reckless driving, stressing the importance of adhering to speed limits and vehicle capacity regulations.
He also warned that increased caution is needed on highways to prevent avoidable tragedies.
