
The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Chigaemezu Joseph Chukwudi, for allegedly raping and blackmailing his 19-year-old neighbour in Owerri.
The State Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the command headquarters.
He revealed that the suspect, a resident of Nduawa Arondizuogu in Ideato North Local Government Area, allegedly deceived the victim under the guise of a business transaction.
According to the police, Chukwudi lured the young woman, a seamstress, to a hotel in Owerri, claiming he needed her services to take measurements and sew clothes for him and his friends.

Upon arrival at the hotel, he allegedly assaulted her and recorded the act.
The police further stated that the suspect used the video to threaten and intimidate the victim, coercing her into further sexual encounters with threats of making the footage public if she refused.
Chukwudi was arrested on May 14, 2026, at about 2:34 pm at the Orji/Amakohia Road roundabout in Owerri North Local Government Area. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
The Commissioner of Police assured the public that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting residents and tackling criminal activities across the state.
